Ryanair visits Airways Aviation Academy, London Oxford Airport

Ryanair visited Airways Aviation Academy’s headquarters in London Oxford Airport, United Kingdom on Friday 7th of June 2019. Two members of the recruitment team, Colm Judge & Amie Latchford and First Officer Maria Petterssen visited the school to inform the students about the new Type Rating programme offered by the airline.

The air carrier representatives arrived in the morning and had an informal meet with the students in the lounge area followed by a presentation in the classroom that was modified for the day. Maria Petterssen shared her valuable experience as an FO in Ryanair. After which, the recruiters presented the benefits, requirements and application procedure of the Type Rating programme. An enthusiastic Q&A session left the Ryanair representatives quite amazed. The day ended with a tour around the facility and meeting with the Airways Aviation team.

The attendants included Airways students from the ground school and flying phase, as well as recent graduates of the academy. Students had been waiting for the day with excitement and now “feel more confident in applying to Ryanair Type Rating programme” a student said. Airways team, on the other hand, was fully ready to welcome the visitors and as James May, General Manager of Oxford mentioned “there is great potential for Airways students that train under the highest standards suitable for Europe’s leading airlines”.

The event was part of the support Airways Aviation offers to students from day one till they get employed. The academy has now put in place a new schedule in order to meet the needs of today’s market. This group of activities aim at introducing students to various pilots and gradually getting them in touch with airlines and the requirements of global employers. Ryanair’s visit supported that goal and students in the beginning of their training learnt more about the life of a pilot, while cadets that have reached the application process stage found the assessment details a useful guide.

The airline team was very pleased by the excellence of Airways students and graduates and discussed about visiting again soon to meet more promising pilots. Airways Aviation continuously provides specialist pilot training to prepare, inspire and develop graduates for careers in commercial aviation.
